Overview

Methanol is a type of alcohol used for racing fuel and in chemical synthesis. Methanol is toxic, non-biodegradable, and burns with no visible flame. One handling methanol should exercise all care and caution.

Uses

Methanol is used in the transesterification process to produce methyl esters (biodiesel). It is also a common race fuel. It has a high octane rating, reasonable BTU value and burns with a flame cooler than normal gasoline.
